ARTEMIS MISSION- A NEW DAWN OF SPACE EXPLORATION

WHY ARTEMIS?

The most vital question right now that has to be asked is why Artemis? With many of the countries taking part in this rat race to enter the moon what makes Artemis so different than everyone else? The simple thing is in a world extremely divided this a joint approach to again start seeing the Earth as one. When several space agencies of the world and private players like Spacex comes together it creates a united view of the world and beyond. Artemis is also important because its important for our humankind to keep looking beyond the Earth, space travel is important for our survival in the far future. Artemis provides a brilliant scientific and economical value to our world today. Besides all of these it will be first mission that will give a woman and a person of colour to be the first one to land on Moon and Mars. While Artemis 1 will be a robotic mission to land on Moon. Artemis 2 will send a crew of 4 astronauts.

BEYOND...

Its safe to say that Artemis itself wont be the end of the space exploration as we are just on the first stage of Artemis plan. In total there will be nearly 3 Artemis seperate missions which will have its final aim to reach the Mars in sustainable fashion. Its safe to say we are looking beyond now. Artemis 2 and Artemis 3 are still in the phase of project designing.

Nearly 6 decades ago an audacious step was taken and Humanity decided to land on the Moon. After several billion dollars of expenses and several lives of astronauts lost we finally stepped on the moon.

On the day of July 20th 1969 the whole world witnessed a giant step taken by the mankind as Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon for the first time. Through the appollo Missions, humans finally laid their feet on their closest Celestian neighbor. A total of 12 astronauts landed on the moon next few years and then somewhere somhow as humanity’s reach to outer space took newer challenges and newer missions the moon was somehow mostly forgotten.

ENTER PROJECT ARTEMIS

NASA along with Japanese space agency (JAXA), European space agency (ESA) and Canadian space agency has developed a robotic and human moon space exploration program and beyond that will be the first step in the next era of space exploration. The major aim is to create a sustainable presence on moon through which we can reach Mars and beyond in the near future

The Space Launch system (SLS) and Orion spacecraft and a Human Landing System (HLS) are designed to send humans to deep space.

The Gateway, a vital component of NASA’s Artemis program, will serve as a multi-purpose outpost orbiting the Moon that provides essential support for long-term human return to the lunar surface and serves as a staging points for deep space exploration. NASA is working with commercial and international partners to establish the Gateway. So basically what we are seeing here is a completely self sustainable plan that would let the astronauts survive for several months and years if required.

With the NASA Artemis mission they plan to land the first woman and first person of colour to ever land on the surface of moon and mars.
